Couples Therapy Online (Gottman Method)

Most couples don't arrive because something is broken — they arrive because the same argument keeps circling back, or the closeness they used to have has quietly slipped. Couples therapy with Dr Narelle Duncan, Clinical Psychologist (PhD in Clinical Psychology), is a space to slow that cycle down, understand what's driving it, and learn practical ways to reconnect. Sessions are held online by secure video, so you and your partner can attend together from the same room or from two different places.

The Gottman Method

Dr Narelle Duncan works with couples using the Gottman Method — an approach built on decades of research into what helps relationships last. It focuses on the patterns beneath recurring conflict: how couples manage disagreement, repair after friction, and rebuild friendship and trust. Her own published research examines how people cope with relationship stress, which directly informs how she works in the room.

What couples bring to therapy

Recurring conflict and the "same fight" on repeat; communication that has become tense or distant; rebuilding trust after a rupture; navigating a major transition together; or simply wanting to feel like a team again. You don't need to be in crisis to come — many couples use therapy to strengthen a relationship that is basically sound.

How sessions work

Couples sessions are held by secure video, Australia-wide, on Thursdays and Fridays. You can join together on one screen or separately on two — useful when work or travel keeps you apart. The fee is $300 per session for the two of you. An initial 4 sessions are dedicated to understanding yourselves as a couple and as individuals in the assessment phase followed by a therapy and maintenance phase designed for reaching your relationship goals. Couples therapy is a private service and is not Medicare-rebatable, because Medicare's Better Access scheme covers individual treatment only.
