Does this sound familiar?

  • Worry moves from one thing to the next and is hard to switch off, at home and at work.

  • You replay conversations and read into other people's moods.

  • Sleep is harder because your mind keeps going.

  • You check, ask for reassurance, or put things off, and it settles you for a while before the worry returns.

  • Your body stays on alert: a tight chest, a racing heart, or feeling on edge for no clear reason.

  • The people close to you may be feeling the strain of it too.

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth taking notice of. Many people come because a pattern has gone on long enough that they would like it to change.

How sessions work

Individual sessions are 50 minutes by secure video. Dr Narelle Duncan uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), two well-researched approaches for anxiety.

In the first session we talk about what's been happening, when it started, and what you would like to be different. You decide how much you share. From there we agree on a plan together: what we'll work on first, how often we'll meet, and how we'll review it as we go. Many people start weekly and then space sessions out as things settle.

Between sessions, the work happens in ordinary moments: noticing the worry earlier, responding to it differently, and building up in small steps.

Questions people ask

Do I need a referral? Not to book. To claim the Medicare rebate on individual sessions, you need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. You can book first and get the plan before your first session. Ask your GP for one and mention my name.

How many sessions will I need? It varies with what you bring and what you would like to change. A Mental Health Care Plan covers up to 10 rebated sessions a calendar year, and we review the plan together as we go.

What if my anxiety is mostly about my relationship? That is a common reason people come. Individual sessions can focus on your side of the pattern and how you respond to it. If you feel couples therapy would suit you better → Couples therapy

Is telehealth private? Sessions are by secure video. You join from anywhere you have privacy. If you're unsure whether telehealth suits you, email before booking.

What if I don't feel safe at home? If you're worried about your safety, or someone's behaviour frightens you, please mention it when you book. 1800RESPECT is available 24 hours on 1800 737 732. In an emergency, call 000.
